The British secret agent films will be available via three months in the United States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Benelux, Italy, Nordic countries and Latin America.
The agreement draws attention because it involves two direct competitors.
Sources consulted by Deadline point out that this is a “strategic business decision, designed to expand global reach and re-engage the public”.
Amazon’s internal assessment is that the revenue generated from licensing compensates for temporarily strengthening a rival, signaling that the content distribution market is heating up again.
The strategy is reminiscent of that adopted by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023, when it began licensing HBO series such as Insecure, Band of Brothers e Six Feet Under for Netflix.
“When Amazon acquired MGM, the plan was always to continue licensing the studio’s iconic catalog to streaming and television partners around the world.”, he stated Chris Ottingerhead of worldwide distribution at Amazon MGM Studios.
“Bringing these iconic films and series to Netflix is part of this ongoing strategy. James Bond remains one of the most enduring and influential franchises in film history, and alongside other beloved titles in our catalog like Hunters, this deal reflects the global appetite for premium storytelling and the strong working relationship we’ve built with Netflix.”
