Production of the film “Dark Horse”, which will feature former president Jair Bolsonaro as the protagonist of a fictional narrative, began this Monday (20). The film, directed by American filmmaker Cyrus Nowrasteh, is scheduled for release in 2026 and promises to retell, through strong dramatization, the knife attack that occurred during the 2018 electoral campaign in Juiz de Fora (MG).

The script is based on the text “Capitão do Povo”, written by federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP), and aims to portray Bolsonaro as an “unlikely winner” of that year’s presidential elections. The work adopts a heroic tone and includes fictional flashbacks that show the then Army soldier, in the 1980s, facing drug trafficking and becoming the target of supposed conspiracies by the left and organized crime.

The plot also creates imaginary episodes involving new assassination attempts against Bolsonaro while he was hospitalized after the stabbing. In the plot, the main villain is a rich and influential drug dealer, who would have been arrested by the protagonist during his work in the Army. The attacker inspired by Adélio Bispo will be called Aurélio Barba.

The Bolsonaro family will have a guaranteed presence in the film. Councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) will be played by Brazilian actor Sérgio Barreto; federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), for the North American Eddie Finlay; and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), by Marcus Ornellas. The plot will also include former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and her youngest daughter, Laura.

The production has not yet released official images or additional details about the complete cast, but the project is already generating repercussions for mixing real events with fictional elements and action narratives.

American actor Jim Caviezel, known worldwide for playing Jesus Christ in The Passion of Christ (2004), he was chosen to play Jair Bolsonaro in a film production. The artist’s name had already been mentioned for months on conservative profiles on social media, where he was highlighted as the “ideal” option to play the former Brazilian president.
