The rock movie that Tarantino recommends
Recently, the filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was invited to list his 20 favorite films of the 21st century. Among works about war, violent westerns, dark dramas and other themes, he also mentioned one about rock.
The one chosen by Tarantino was School of Rock (School of Rock2003), from Richard Linklaterstarring Jack Black. The American director placed the feature film in 14th position on his list.
The film is a comedy-drama about a failed rock musician, Dewey Finn (Jack Black), who goes undercover as a substitute teacher at an elite school. In his new “job”, he transforms his students into a rock band, teaching the class several classics of the style.
Tarantino praised Linklater’s work, indicating that he made him laugh uncontrollably. In a podcast interview The Bret Easton Ellis (via World of Reel), the filmmaker commented:
“It was a lot of fun going to the movies. It was a really, really fun session. I think that explosion of Jack Black combined with Rick Linklater e Mike White made it special (…) it’s the closest we’ve come to Bad News Bears.”

The director even made a horror/action film about the rocker Rob Zombie, Rejected by the Devil (2005), which is not exactly about rock, but has a strong connection with the style due to the filmmaker himself and the soundtrack, which features Lynyrd SkynyrdThe Allman Brothers Band e James Gangamong other bands.
