The new year 2026 has arrived and the good news, for fans of the seventh art, is that there are now new films debuting in cinemas. For this reason, here are the first films that have debuted in national theaters.
1. 13 Days, 13 Nights
One of the films opening today in cinemas in Portugal is “13 Days, 13 Nights”, which mixes the styles of action, thriller and war. It has a duration of 112 minutes and the story unfolds in Afghanistan, as US troops prepare to withdraw. At the same time, the Taliban seek to seize power.
“In the midst of the chaos, Commander Mohamed Bida and his men are responsible for the security of the French embassy, the last Western diplomatic mission to remain open. With 500 people abandoned to their fate, the team must reach the airport at all costs. A dangerous mission, with no guarantee of success, to escape the hell of Kabul” (via FilmSpot).
2. The Maid
Another film that promises to be successful is “The Maid”, featuring names like Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, and in the video below you can see the trailer. “Millie is a fighting woman and happy to start life again as a maid for Nina and Andrew, a wealthy couple. However, she soon realizes that the family’s secrets are more dangerous than her own.”
3. A Silent Hour
In a record of action, crime and thriller, the film “The Silent Hour”, starring Joel Kinnaman, Mark Strong and Sandra Mae Frank, is also worth highlighting. According to the film’s synopsis, “while working on a case as an interpreter, a hearing-impaired police detective must face a group trying to eliminate the deaf witness to a homicide committed in her building.”
The trailer can be seen below.
4. The Hanged
It also remains to mention the film “The Hanged Men”, which was made between Brazil and Portugal. Regina and Valério live comfortably in a luxurious mansion high in the hills of Rio, but the couple’s happiness is disturbed by the criminal legacy left by Valério’s father, former leader of the local mafia.
While Valério tries to move away from that world, his uncle Linduarte pressures him to take charge. In an argument to convince him to leave them alone, Regina and Valério end up unintentionally killing Linduarte and, from then on, they find themselves drawn into a succession of violent acts that pushes them exactly into the universe of crime from which they wanted to escape.
