Rapunzel live-action, the actress chosen for Mother Gothel is perfect: she’s a Marvel star!

The next live-action adaptation of a Disney classic, Rapunzelis ready to welcome another well-known face of cinema into its large cast of actors and actresses. This time joining the group of interpreters will be Kathryn Hahn, an actress who over the years has lent her face to the famous Agatha Harkness.

Michael Gracey, known for his The Greatest Showman and Better Man, will direct the project, which aims to bring the story of the film released in 2010 to life, while Jenifer Kaytin Robinson will write the screenplay. Kathryn Hahn will play Mother Gothel and will join the already announced Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, respectively in the roles of Rapunzel and Elynn Rider, the love interest of the princess with very long hair. Sixteen years ago the Disney Classic made its debut with the aim of revisiting the tale of Rapunzel and sanctioning a creative rebirth of Disney after a few subdued years. At the time, the film grossed an impressive $600 million globally.

Obviously the hope is that the enthusiasm towards Rapunzel will also be reconfirmed in live-action format. Yet another piece of a strategy that has been going on for over a decade now: bringing back the Classics, giving them a new dimension in live-action. Although many of the projects released in recent years have turned out to be flops, many others have made their way again – or for the first time – into the hearts of fans of those stories. An example is Beauty and the Beast, although it was received lukewarmly by critics it raked in astronomical figures. The same cannot be said of Snow White with Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, which was poorly received by both the public and specialized critics.

This year it was Lilo & Stitch’s turn to reveal itself an incredible success and grossed over 1 billion dollars all over the world. In short, the road to live-action is tortuous and not without problems and we are sure that Disney will be able to grasp the good things that have emerged from both the successes and flops of the last ten years.
