Queens of the Stone Age’s Alive in the Catacombs Film Now Streaming on YouTube
Queens of the Stone Age’s stirring concert film Alive in the Catacombs is now streaming on YouTube.
The project, which was filmed back in July 2024, sees QOTSA performing an intimate, haunting set of reimagined songs from their catalog deep within the Catacombs of Paris. Situated at the tail end of a sprawling tour — and mere hours before frontman Josh Homme flew back to the US to receive emergency life-saving surgery — the concert film captures the band at their most vulnerable and meditative, with Homme exploring his own mortality as he and the band serenade thousands of skulls and bones deep underground.

In addition to revealing the full Alive in the Catacombs project, Queens of the Stone Age have shared Alive in Paris and Beforea companion documentary diving into the context surrounding their Catacombs set, Homme’s battle with illness, and how the band and the camera crew captured the performance. Alive in the Catacombs was the subject of our recent cover story on Queens of the Stone Age. In the piece, Homme discussed the 20-year journey of trying to make the project happen (which was specially approved by the city of Paris, making the band the first musical act to perform in the Catacombs). He also dove deep into the philosophy behind the performance, why the Catacombs felt like a “dominating” space to create art in, his illness and recovery, and why he wants to create music that will have a lasting, almost permanent effect on his audience: “I know other people use their brand for Vitamin Water and whatever the fuck they’re making. But I wanna burn you with mine. My brand is scarification,” Homme said.
The band also supported their Alive in the Catacombs project with an imaginative “Catacombs Tour,” which saw them performing pared-down reinterpretations of Queens of the Stone Age songs in intimate theaters around the US and Canada. The group encouraged attendees to dress up for the performances, and centered the setlists on deep cuts, live rarities, and even new songs. Revisit our review of the “Catacombs” show in Chicago, which we felt was “unlike anything QOTSA have done before.”
Next for Queens of the Stone Age is a major summer 2026 tour supporting Foo Fighters. Get tickets to see the band here.
