Kristen Stewart plans to direct the remake of ‘Twilight’ – 01/05/2026 – Illustrated

Kristen Stewart said she would love to direct a new version of “Twilight”, the story that made her famous in cinema. During the Palm Springs film festival, in the United States, the actress and director commented that the first film in the saga would be the project she would most like to revisit behind the camera, highlighting the respect she has for the work of the original directors.

According to Stewart, the films carried a rare authenticity, marked by strange, personal choices closely linked to the moment in which they were made, before the global phenomenon took on gigantic proportions. Still, she said she can’t help but imagine what a reimagining would be like with more creative freedom, a hefty budget and the studio’s full support. He also joked that he would do the remake without hesitation.

The artist also made a point of praising Catherine Hardwicke, director of the original film, stating that “Twilight” carries her identity. According to Stewart, conducting a project surrounded by expectations, commercial interests and multiple opinions is a huge challenge, which made her feel empathy for the directors who took on the following films in the franchise.

Despite the process that she describes as “suffocating”, Stewart believes that each chapter of the saga managed to preserve some trace of its own personality. This experience, according to her, awakened a common feeling among actors, the desire to create their own version of something that profoundly marked their artistic career.

Meanwhile, the “Twilight” universe continues to arouse interest. Lionsgate is working on early development on a television adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s books. The author would be involved in the project, although few details have been released so far.
