“Hero” film will have Jair Bolsonaro as the main character in 2026

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to 27 years in prison for his participation in the coup plot, will “become” a film. Federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP), a known supporter of Bolsonaro, wrote a script based on the former president’s life, betting on a “heroic” plot with the guiding thread being the stab wound he suffered in 2018.

The film will be called Dark Horse. In literal translation, it would be something like “dark horse”, but this is an expression in English to describe an “underdog”. The production is being directed by the American Cyrus Nowrasteh and is produced by Eduardo Verástegui, a beloved name among conservatives.

According to Folha de São Paulo, the film about Bolsonaro began filming in São Paulo in October and should hit theaters next year. Bolsonaro’s family will also feature prominently in the narrative and the former president’s children have already been included:

  • Carlos Bolsonaro – Sérgio Barreto;
  • Eduardo Bolsonaro – Eddie Finlay;
  • Flávio Bolsonaro – Marcus Ornellas.

Interestingly, although Bolsonaro’s children have already been cast, Bolsonaro himself has not yet had his actor announced.

Bolsonaro has been in prison since Saturday (22)

The former president is serving his sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup d’état, armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, qualified damage due to violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed property. He was under house arrest, but was transferred to the Federal Police Superintendency on Saturday (22) after trying to open his electronic ankle bracelet with solder, which he confirmed having done, saying he was experiencing a “paranoia” crisis.
