Gay romance ‘Pillion’ wins four statuettes at the British Independent Film Awards
The winners of British Independent Film Awards 2025 were revealed this past Sunday (30) – and the gay BDSM drama ‘Pillion’which marks the director’s debut Harry Lightondominated the edition with nothing less than four awardsincluding Best Independent British Film.
The film tells the story of a charismatic motorcyclist who crosses paths with a shy young man, developing a relationship of dominance and submission that was widely praised by critics. Alexander Skarsgård e Harry Melling star in the film, which also took home the statuettes of Best Screenplay Debut para Lighton, Best Costume e Best Makeup and Hair.
The film will be released in national cinemas on February 12, 2026for the Diamond Films.

The film marks the directorial debut of Harry Lightonwhich also adapts the screenplay from the novel ‘Box Hill’of Adam Mars-Jones.
In the plot, Colin, a shy man, meets Ray, a confident biker gang leader, who initiates him into a submissive relationship, challenging Colin’s mundane existence and stimulating personal growth through their dynamics.
Douglas Hodge, Lesley Sharp, Jake Shears, Paul Tallis, Anthony Welsh and more complete the cast.
‘Pillion’ had its official debut on Cannes Film Festival 2025where he was applauded by the public and won rare 100% approval no Rotten Tomatoes – and won the award Un Certain Regard of Best Screenplay.
