Avatar 4 will change a fundamental rule of the saga introduced in the first three films

Se Avatar 4 will really arrive in theaters, the new chapter of the saga James Cameron will introduce a significant narrative change, destined to break one of the rules that has accompanied the entire franchise since the first film in 2009. Unlike the previous chapters, the fourth episode will in fact entrust the narration to a completely different character, marking a turning point in the way in which Pandora’s story is told.

It was confirmed Sigourney Weaverwhich during a recent interview with Jake Hamilton revealed that it will be Left to become the narrator of Avatar 4. A detail that is anything but random, which the actress explained is an integral part of the character’s narrative arc and planned by Cameron for over a decade. A choice that interrupts a very specific tradition: in the first two films, the story was told from the point of view of Jake SullyWhile Avatar: Fire and Ash has already introduced a first change of perspective by entrusting the narration to Lo’akthe son of Jake and Neytiri.

Con Avatar 4the transition will be even clearer. Kiri will not only become the first female narrator of the saga, but he will also be the first character to tell the events without being biologically part of the Sully family. Introduced in The way of waterKiri is the daughter of the avatar of Grace Augustine and was adopted by Jake and Neytiri, immediately representing an atypical and central figure in the Pandora universe.

This change is part of a broader narrative strategy already anticipated by Cameron in the past. The director had in fact explained that each subsequent sequel to The way of water would have had a different narrator, allowing the saga to renew itself and explore Pandora from ever new perspectives. After Kiri in Avatar 4Also Avatar 5 should therefore introduce a further change of point of view.

However, a big unknown remains: Avatar 4 it is not yet an absolute certainty. The films in the franchise are among the most expensive ever made and their future depends strictly on box office results. The first Avatar exceeded 2.9 billion dollars, while The way of water it grossed over 2.3 billion. Cameron recently admitted that, if Fire and Ash should it not obtain the desired results, the fourth chapter may not be completed, although some preliminary filming has already been carried out.

At the moment, Avatar 4 is scheduled for December 21, 2029con Avatar 5 scheduled for 2031, but the calendar remains subject to possible changes, also considering Cameron’s possible return to the franchise Terminator. If the project goes ahead, however, the change of narrator will represent one of the most evident signs of a saga ready to reinvent itself, shifting its emotional and narrative center towards a new generation of characters.
