About movies
Cinema Christmas Its 2025 edition begins with one of the most outstanding films of the year, recently winner of the Forqué Awards and favorite in the Goya race: Sundays. In it, Alauda Ruiz of Azúa confirms its commitment to family intimacy, but this time considering, with a special sensitivity to dwell on the distances that separate us, a moral, social, emotional debate.
And the nursing home where the protagonist of Maspalomas when he has to abandon his idyllic life in the south of Gran Canaria to return to a gray Donosti where he once again represses his homosexuality. Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi They delve with rawness and emotion into usually forgotten topics: sexual desire and love in old age, as well as the persistent ghost of marginalization and rejection. A luminous proposal focused on fidelity to oneself, even in our last days.
Maturity is central, again, in My friend Eva: a woman, powerfully played by Nora Navas, decides to break up her marriage after 50 and, paraphrasing one of our best authors of the year, “give herself over to voluptuousness.” Cesc Gay talks about trusting second chances in his new film, but especially about surrendering at any age to the impulses, normally associated with irrational youth, of passion and feeling. A masterful exercise to capture the fragility and humor of everyday relationships.
These are the turbulences that drag the parents of Carla Simon to the tragedy during the AIDS epidemic in Galicia in the 80s. Following in her footsteps, and seeking to reconstruct her story (unlocking along the way new, less naturalistic and more urban and dreamlike ways of cinematically confronting her own biography), the filmmaker takes in fiction a journey that she never took in real life, and with which she not only seeks to exorcise ghosts: Pilgrimage It is, above all, a great love story, the dream of a (feverish) summer night. A sensitive portrait of traditions and bonds that endure beyond stigma.
Ends cycle programming Usa vulnerable, minimalist and authorial face to face with which Helena Bar is approaching Scenes from a marriage of Bergman from the epicenter of a couple crossed, yes, by contemporary problems such as precariousness, turbo-capitalist rhythms or interdependence. A story that reminds us that love can change in the blink of an eye.
