Guillermo del Toro shoots at AI to celebrate Frankenstein: “I hate by humans, for humans”

O Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro continues to conquer the film industry with its impact. During the Gotham Awards ceremony held last Monday, the filmmaker got straight to the point in his speech against artificial intelligence upon receiving the Vanguard Tribute award for his work: “Screw this)“. Accompanied by stars Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, protagonists of the production, del Toro spared no criticism of the technology that has divided opinions in Hollywood.

The speech began with del Toro paying tribute to Mary Shelley’s immortal work, revealing a five-decade connection to the story. “I understood then, through her work and that first glimpse of Boris Karloff, that I didn’t belong in the world the way my parents did, the way the world expected me to fit in.”declared the filmmaker, who had his first contact with the book when he was 11 years old and, since then, knew that one day he would adapt the story for the screen.

Now to 61 yearsthe director considered the project one of the greatest achievements of his career. “Returning to this story with such extraordinary artists as Oscar and Jacob has truly been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and in them, I have found another family”he stated. After brief comments from Elordi and Isaac, del Toro returned to the microphone to emphasize the craftsmanship that went into Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

I would like to say to the rest of our extraordinary cast and crew that their artistic talent shines through in every frame of this film that was intentionally made by humans, for humans“, highlighted the director. The statement reinforces its position against the use of AI in the entertainment industry, valuing the manual and artisanal work of designers, builders, makeup artists and the entire team involved in production.
