After Zootopia 2, many people left the cinema with that feeling of “I want more stories like this”. Vibrant universes, characters full of personality, humor and that story that only Disney films can deliver.
And yes, Disney+ is full of great options that capture that same energy.
Enchantment (2021)
Encanto follows Mirabel, a young woman from the Madrigal family, where everyone has magical powers, except her. When the house’s magic begins to fade, Mirabel realizes she is the only one who sees the cracks and can stop the gifts from ending.
The film is about family pressure, expectations and identity, and shows how someone “ordinary” can have a huge impact. If you liked Zootopia 2 for its world-building and balance between humor and serious themes, Encanto hits the spot.
Moana (2016)
Moana lives on a Polynesian island where everything is traditional until nature begins to collapse. The ocean chooses her to restore the “heart” of an ancient goddess, and she needs to convince the demigod Maui to help her.
The story is an adventure about courage, destiny and listening to your own voice, with a determined protagonist like Judy Hopps. If you liked the upbeat energy and emotional strength of Zootopia 2, Moana delivers from start to finish.
Funny Mind 2 (2024)
Riley has grown up and, with adolescence, new emotions arise that transform everything inside. Anxiety, Envy and Shame arrive, disrupting the internal structure that Alegria and her gang try to keep stable.
The film shows, in a creative way, how internal changes affect who we are becoming. For those who liked the “metaphorical” side of Zootopia, Inside Out 2 expands a familiar world with new rules, new dangers and a humor that speaks directly to those who have already felt the mental chaos of adolescence.
Red: Growing Up Is a Beast (2022)
Mei Lee, a studious and obedient teenager, discovers that she turns into a giant red panda whenever she feels intense emotions. The transformation is a perfect metaphor for the emotional mess of adolescence, and the film explores conflicts with an overprotective mother well.
The story is about self-acceptance, change and identity, with chaotic humor and lots of heart. If you liked the messages hidden beneath the cuteness of Zootopia 2, this film will hook you immediately.
The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
Emperor Kuzco is selfish, spoiled and insufferable, until he is transformed into a llama by an eccentric and genius villain. To get back to normal, he depends on Pacha, a kind peasant who is practically his opposite.
The story is simple, but the humor is quick, sharp and iconic, very reminiscent of the comic rhythm of Zootopia. If you like characters with strong personalities and witty dialogue, this is the perfect film.
The Great Mouse Detective (1986) — The Great Mouse Detective
Inspired by Sherlock Holmes, Basil is a brilliant mouse who lives solving mysteries in the London of animals. Here, he needs to find an inventor kidnapped by the villain Ratigan, a striking and stylish antagonist.
The film is a mix of mystery, adventure and humor, with that “parallel city of animals” atmosphere that directly recalls the charm of Zootopia. Anyone who liked the police dynamic between Judy and Nick will feel right at home.
